Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers state they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been applied in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Police then found numerous other smeared cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police say early analysis indicate the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; investigators are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the event," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were working "to resolve the case" and have requested to the public for tips.
A senior political figure said the attack left him without words and had to be addressed promptly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing attack in 2020," he stated on online, recalling the murder of nine people by a shooter focusing on people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
